Eclectic Wedding Trends
As you can well imagine, we peruse a ton of wedding blogs, photography wedding sites, and rustic venue pins.
In no paticular order, we are randomly throwing a top ten list together of a few of our favorite things:
1. Bowties
2. Food Trucks
3. Stop motion photography
4. Late night treats
5. Creative Dance Floor Options ... mainly outdoor and checkered floors
6. Guest participation, unique ceremony seating, join hands and form a circle to pray over couple, sing the doxology or say the Lord's prayer.
7. Welcome packets and/or a Thursday night ice-breaker get-together
8. #'s for ALL photos
9. Everything old is new again, If you feel that vintage has been overdone why don't you give retro a whirl?
10. A basket for iPhones, live in real time for a spell and on the other hand what about a live stream?

What The Photo?
Now that the 2013 wedding season is getting underway, let's talk candidly about the marriage between the bride, the groom, and their photographer. Ménage à Trois? WTPh?
My title? "What the photo?" originally started out as "What the photographer wants", but it doesn't really matter what the photographer wants, now does it? It's what YOU want. Do you know what you want? We'd like to help you figure it out.
We will also be marrying our photography business to our farm event venture, so our postings will feature a photo from in and around Grey Barn Farm Occasions and Remington, Indiana. Did you know we are only 25 miles from the ever-cultured Purdue University and the historic cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana? Boiler Up.
May we recommend Jennifer Grace Photography as an Indiana area photographer who will do her darndest to tell your wedding day story in the most unique way. Her talents and personality combined, will capture your day in photographs, to be sure, bu you'll also gain a phriend for life. She wants every photo to be the one you look at over and over and over again. And besides STORIES is her 2nd Photographer and she is STORIES second shooter. So yeah, blatant plug.

Top 10 Tips on telling your (our) story through wedding day photographs.
1. Less is More. Period. We know you want us to capture the whole day, and we will, but how many pictures of your shoes or the groomsmen socks are you going to frame and hang on your wall?
2. Get What You Want. We're shooting to capture romance, personalities, and your wedding day story.
3. Easy On The Posed. If you don't like something we suggest, feel free to say it, and we'll not speak of it again. See Tip #2
4. Over Easy Edited. We'll turn a couple of our favorites to black and white, and we have a couple of photoshop actions we like ... but like I said before, we're big big fans of SOC shots. You hired us for our "good eye" not to spend hours coloring in flowers in a black and white photo.
5. Budget Your Timeline: Give us one hour of your day with just bride and groom and we'll give you romance. If you only have the budget for 6 hours of photography, prioritize. This is where shoes, rings, and 3rd locations get moved down the priority list.
6. Family Matters: We've got two words for you here: Shot List
7. Fudge Your Budget: If you like what you see on our website, give us your photography budget and a list of what you want/need, and we'll give you a quote. Our packages and prices are suggestions.
8. Interview Us: We'll gladly answer all your interview questions, so ask them. We do Windows. We do iChat. We do skype!
9. Evaluate Us: We want to know how we did. We can handle the truth.
10. Review Us: If you liked us, would you give us a review? Pretty please.

If I Could Save Time In A Bottle
Top Ten Tips (AKP) Ask The Photographer
Today's lesson will be on timelines.
Let's think this through. This is your one and only day to capture the magic. Get Notes up on your iPad, or go old school and grab a legal pad. Start at the beginning of your day (even rehearsal day) and walk through every 15 minutes - 1/2 hour. Talk out loud. Take notes. Do this every month during wedding prep season. And ramp it up to every other day or so as the countdown turns to days instead of weeks. Then, on wedding day the important things will surface and the mind rehearsals will pay off big time.
Well, ya can't ya know ... save time in a bottle, that is. So now, a word on timelines:
1. Have them. 2. Stick to them.
3. Make sure everyone has a copy ... especially the groomsmen.
4. Adjust them accordingly, but if you do adjust them make sure everyone has the updated versions ... especially the groomsmen.
5. Time saving tip: Give your photographer some pinterest photos of shots you'd like them to capture, especially wedding party shots. When it's wedding party photo time, we can hold the photo up and show wedding party participants exactly what to do and how to pose for the shot ... especially the groomsmen.
6. Bride and groom: always stay focused on each other ... all day. We've found the natural and romantic shots actually happen in the moment right before or right after a posed shot. This is true ESPECIALLY during the first look. In all reality, this may be your only 15 minutes the two of you can steal all day. Take advantage of it. Forget about the crowd in the background ... especially the groomsmen. Forget about the photographer and videographer. Forget about everything, except each other. When we've felt you've had your moments (we'll be shooting off in the background) then we'll start directing traffic ... "look at each other, kiss, look at us, etc. etc"
7. Hire the 2nd photographer. Timelines are just that, timelines. And a photographer is just that, a photographer. It's super hard to be in two places at once. We try as hard as we can to never shoot a wedding alone. It's simply too risky. Even with an assistant, it's hard to gather the families, fluff the dress, pose rings and shoes, shoot the shot list, ride the party bus, coral wedding party ... especially the groomsmen, and drive our car, all at the same time.
8. Don't ever not give us a "shot" list. (Forgive the double negative, but we live and breathe on wedding day by the shot list) A good working rule: Let your timeline drive your shot list. In fact, we think shot lists are so important we'll have a Top 10 for them soon! Give us that list and we'll do our darndest to shoot everyone ... especially the groomsmen.
9. A word to the groomsmen ... We realize we've been a little hard on you in this post. We love you to death, and we'll for sure take the blame if you feel a bit pushed around on wedding day. It's a give and take kinda thing between the photographers and the groomsmen. You give us your undivided attention during the day and we'll cut you loose for the reception. Deal?
